Getting Started & Consultations
Do you offer free landscaping estimates in Baltimore County and Harford County?
Yes! Floyd's Landscape provides free over-the-phone estimates for landscaping and hardscaping projects throughout Baltimore County, Harford County, and Southern York County, PA. For larger projects requiring in-person consultations, 3D landscape designs, or engineering reports, a consultation fee may apply. This fee may or may not be credited towards your project.
How do I start planning a landscaping or hardscaping project?
Getting started is easy. You can request a consultation through our Consultation Request Form, call us at 443-814-7126, or email brandon@floydslandscape.com We'll discuss your vision, budget, and timeline to determine the best approach for your outdoor living space - whether that's a new patio, retaining wall, drainage solution, or complete landscape renovation.
What can I expect during the initial in-person consultation?
During your initial consultation, our team visits your property to understand your goals and assess the space. Here's what to expect:
- We'll discuss your ideas, style preferences, and how you want to use your outdoor space
- Our team takes photos, videos, and measurements of your property
- We evaluate grading, drainage, and soil conditions specific to Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania landscapes
- We explain the construction process, potential challenges, and realistic timelines
- After the consultation, we prepare a detailed proposal with design options and pricing, then schedule a follow-up meeting to review everything before finalizing your contract.
What happens after the consultation?
We prepare a detailed proposal and email it to you. A follow-up meeting will be scheduled to review options and designs—this is the time to make changes, discuss budget goals, and finalize material choices. When everything is finalized and agreed upon, we'll send completed contract documents via email for your signature. Floyd's Lawn & Landscape requires a 1/3 deposit on the contract; the remaining balance will be divided and charged throughout the project.
Lawn Care & Maintenance Services
How often should I have my lawn mowed in Maryland?
Floyd's Landscape will mow your yard weekly to maintain a healthy lawn and prevent overgrowth. During peak growing season in Maryland (typically April through October), weekly service keeps your lawn looking its best and prevents stress from removing too much grass at once.
Will my lawn be mowed on the same day each week?
Yes, we schedule your service for the same day each week to maintain consistency. Weather permitting, our crew arrives on your designated day so you know when to expect us. If rain or severe weather forces a delay, we will automatically reschedule your mowing service as quickly as possible.
What if my lawn is too dry or too wet for mowing?
Maryland weather can be unpredictable. If your lawn is stressed from drought or saturated from heavy rain, please contact us to reschedule - mowing under these conditions can damage your turf. If our crew arrives and determines service isn't advisable, we will skip that visit to protect your lawn's health.
Do I need to remove obstacles like pet waste, toys, or hoses before service?
Yes. Please remove pet waste, toys, hoses, lawn furniture, trash, and other obstacles before your scheduled service. This helps us work efficiently and prevents damage to your belongings or our equipment. If pet waste is present when our crew arrives, a $50 fee may apply.
What mowing height do you recommend for Maryland lawns?
We typically cut between 2.5–4 inches, depending on grass type and seasonal conditions. Taller grass (3-4 inches) is generally healthier - it develops deeper roots, retains moisture better, and naturally crowds out weeds. During Maryland's hot summer summers, we often raise the cutting height to reduce heat stress on your lawn.

What is hardscaping?

Landscaping Services
What is the difference between landscaping and hardscaping?
Landscaping focuses on living elements - plants, trees, shrubs, flowers, and grass - along with organic materials like mulch and soil. Hardscaping covers the structural, non-living features like patios, walls, and walkways. The best outdoor spaces combine both: hardscaping provides structure and functionality, while landscaping adds color, texture, and softness. Floyd's Landscape designs and installs both to create cohesive, beautiful properties throughout Baltimore County, Harford County, and Southern York County.
What landscaping services do you offer?
Our landscaping services include landscape design and installation, seasonal planting, mulch installation, tree and shrub planting, flower bed creation, lawn renovation and seeding, and garden maintenance. We select plants suited to Maryland's climate (USDA Zone 7a) that thrive in local soil conditions and provide year-round interest.
Can you help design my landscape?
Absolutely. Floyd's Landscape creates custom designs tailored to your property, style, preferences, and budget. We consider factors like sun exposure, soil conditions, existing features, drainage patterns, and how you plan to use your outdoor space. For complex projects, we offer 3D renderings so you can visualize the finished result before construction begins.
Drainage Solutions
Can you fix drainage problems in my yard?
Yes - drainage is one of our specialties. Floyd's Landscape is and NDS Certified Professional Drainage Contractor, meaning we've received specialized training in diagnosing and solving water management issues. Poor drainage can cause foundation damage, flooded basements, mosquito breeding, and landscape erosion. We design and install comprehensive drainage systems including French drains, channel drains, grading corrections, and permeable hardscaping to redirect water away from your home and protect your property.
What causes drainage problems in Baltimore County yards?
Common drainage issues in Baltimore County and Harford County include clay-heavy soil that doesn't absorb water well, improper grading that directs water toward foundations, downspouts that discharge too close to the house, and compacted soil from construction. Maryland's variable rainfall - from summer thunderstorms to winter freeze-thaw cycles - makes proper drainage essential for protecting your home and landscape investment.
Maintenance & Repairs
What maintenance does a paver patio require?
Properly installed hardscaping requires minimal maintenance. We recommend:
- Regular sweeping to remove debris and prevent weed growth between pavers
- Annual inspection for any settling, shifting, or drainage issues
- Polymeric sand reapplication every 2 - 3 years to keep joints stable
- Sealing every 3 - 5 years to protect against staining and enhance color (optional)
Maryland's freeze-thaw cycles can occasionally cause minor shifting - catching these issues early prevents costly repairs.
Do you repair existing patios and retaining walls?
Yes, Floyd's Landscape repairs many hardscape features including sunken or uneven pavers, leaning or bulging retaining walls, and failing drainage systems. We assess whether repairs are cost-effective or if replacement makes more sense for your situation. Contact us for an evaluation of your existing hardscaping.
Will my hardscaping project increase property value?
Yes! Professionally designed and installed hardscaping is one of the best investments you can make in your property. According to industry studies, well-executed landscape and hardscape improvements can return 100 - 200% of their cost at resale. Beyond financial returns, quality outdoor living spaces expand your usable square footage and enhance your daily enjoyment of your home. In competitive real estate markets like Baltimore County, attractive outdoor spaces help properties stand out and sell faster.
